Workforce Development Agreement Ontario

In a speech at United Association Local 46, ministers said these agreements will significantly increase the jobs and qualifications available to Onters, including training programs, internships, employer-sponsored training, job search assistance, career counselling and more. Canada has entered into Labour Market Transfer Agreements with the provinces and territories entitled “Labour Market Agreements for Persons with Disabilities”, “Canada Job Fund Agreements” and “Targeted Initiative For Older Workers Agreements”. The Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, today announced details of a $1.5 billion investment in Workforce Development Agreements (WGAs) with provinces and territories. This investment will help Canadians in under-represented groups and sectors most affected by the pandemic – such as construction, transportation and hospitality – quickly access support to re-enter the workforce. It could include skills, on-the-job training, employer-sponsored training, financial support and benefits, employment advice and services, and employment opportunities. This funding is in addition to the $3.4 billion that will be made available to provinces and territories in 2020-2021 under the WGA and Labour Market Development Agreements (WMAs). I am sure other provinces and territories have signed agreements, but I have not yet seen any public announcements. 38. 1. If, during the term of this Agreement, another province or territory negotiates a Labour Development Agreement with Canada or an amendment to such an Agreement, and if any provision of this Agreement or an amending Agreement is more favourable to that province or territory than the Agreement negotiated with Ontario, Canada agrees to amend this Agreement: to provide Ontario with the same treatment — at Ontario`s request. This amendment applies retroactively to the date of coming into force of the Workforce Development Agreement or the amendment to that Agreement with the other province or territory. 40. This Agreement replaces the Canada-Ontario Agreement and the Canada-Ontario Agreement on the Labour Market for Persons with Disabilities effective the date of entry into force.

On that day, these agreements will be revoked. “Ontario`s economy is changing. New technologies, globalization and changing demographics mean that the jobs available – and the types of skills needed to succeed in these roles – are different. .
